Momentous events on the big screen often touch your ears before your eyes, and keep echoing after you’ve left the movie theater. Here’s a few fun facts on sound in films.

Once sound recording was invented, the then large studios were reluctant whether to adopt the new technology, primarily due to the huge investment needed for building sound studios and equipping them with the needed devices.

However, after the first talkie was internationally displayed, it turned out to be a box office hit. That event introduced sound, as one of the major breakthroughs ever brought to the film industry.

Among the top 10 lists, no silent movie is seen, because sound gave the upper hand to talkies, making them unrivalled.

The story telling power of sound, coupled with early technologies such as Vitaphone, one that played sound separately but in synchrony with the motion picture, made the improvement so attractive to the audience worldwide.

Later on, the digital revolution ended the push filmmakers were making on technological limits; a leap forward which ended in the high quality intrinsic design currently creating 3D sound effects, and making you believe it’s almost real.

After all, pictures need sounds as much as food needs taste.
